– NARA 208-AA-132-127B-8: American and Filipino prisoners of war, April 1942.
April 9-21, 1942
This week marks the 75th anniversary of the U.S. surrender of the Bataan peninsula in the Philippines to Japanese forces and the subsequent forced march of over 70,000 American and Filipino prisoners of war. The POWs were forced to endure the brutal “Bataan Death March”—a march of over 60 miles to Japanese prisoner of war camps. During the march thousands die from deprivation and abuse by Japanese troops.
