After many years of absence, sea nettles are swarming in Monterey Bay once again!

This picture was taken this morning at San Carlos Beach in Monterey—yes, the water is THAT green with plankton right now!

No one is quite sure what triggers these blooms of jellies, be it water temperatures, currents or other factors. That’s where you come in! Any time you see a jelly, head over to www.jellywatch.org to report your sighting. Your observations help jelly scientists track these mysterious animals and tie them back to the oceanographic conditions that promote them.
