Here I sit all alone.
Not a sound to be heard.
No movement at all.
Inside she sleeps,
Unaware I am not at her side.
Silence surrounds me.
Not even the wind whispers a word.
I’m all alone while everyone sleeps.
Enveloped by the night, the quiet;
And by those who sleep.
Outside the crickets are calling their mates,
While cars speed past,
Going places unknown.
Is there a lover, a friend, a mother or father,
At the end of the road?
That is something I’ll never know.
For I sit here, surrounded by the silence.
Protected by the night,
From all that I fear on the outside world.
