A former ethics lawyer who worked under President George W. Bush blasted White House senior adviser Jared Kushner, who is President Trump’s son-in-law, for still having a security clearance.
“Jared Kushner’s security clearance should be revoked. If not, we should just throw in the towel and give one to Vladimir Putin himself,” Richard Painter tweeted on Sunday.

It also came to light last weekend that Kushner was present at a June 2016 meeting with a Russian lawyer who promised damaging information on then-Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. The meeting was set up by Donald Trump Jr. and was also attended by then-campaign chairman Paul Manafort.
After details of the meeting were publicized, Kushner faced broad criticism, with Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) saying in “a normal political world,” Kushner would lose his job.
“In a normal world, we wouldn’t be talking about security clearances, Jared Kushner would have been fired about four hours ago,” Murphy saidon MSNBC last week.
Emails released by Trump Jr. from music publicist Rob Goldstone, who acted as an intermediary to set up the meeting, said the information “would incriminate Hillary and her dealings with Russia and would be very useful to your father.”
“This is obviously very high level and sensitive information but is part of Russia and its government’s support for Mr. Trump,” Goldstone wrote.
“If it’s what you say I love it especially later in the summer,” Trump Jr. replied. He later forwarded the full email chain to Kushner and Manafort.
