Such Is The Nature Of Daylight:

Such Is The Nature Of Daylight:

We were the lovers
set ablaze
before the dawn learned our names,
before the stars held our wishes
in the hollows of their palms,
before the moon could wane
and paint us silver,
soothing us into something gentle.

And we were the strangers
that brushed one another’s hand
on accident, we say, on accident,
it was all an accident,
every little thing was an accident,

we didn’t mean to fall together
like pieces finding a whole,
we did not mean to share the breath
that haunted our lungs,
we did not mean to carve a home
in the space of the other’s heart,

it was an accident,
all these years an accident,

but we were the lovers
set ablaze,
we burned quickly
and brightly
until nothing of us remained –

but such is the nature of daylight –

it fades.
