A Catholic all-boys school was forced to cover up a statue of a saint and a kneeling boy that clearly no one gave a critical eye to before…(ahem)…erecting.
Blackfriars Priory School in Adelaide unveiled the statue of St Dominic handing a kneeling boy a loaf of bread, and even without the context of the Catholic Church‘s child abuse scandal, it looks bad. Like Kevin Spacey after a few too many drinks bad.
Blackfriars Priory School forced to cover up a brand new statue after its unfortunate design of a kneeling boy and a saint caused a social media storm. Report in 7 News at 4pm and 6pm. #7News
One of the saint’s miracles is said to be an “ample” supply of bread. Ample indeed.
When students began to take “inappropriate” photos with the statue, school officials covered it up.
The school’s principal, Simon Cobiac, published a statement to the school’s Facebook page, saying it looked different in the 2D plans compared to the real McCoy. Or should we say the real full Monty?
Let’s face it, we’ve all been there.
The statue is going to be taken down and redesigned, and the principal apologized “for any concerns and publicity generated by this matter and is taking action to substantially alter the statue.”
