By Spectrum News Staff  |  January 1, 2018 @8:00 AM

The second increase in New York state’s minimum wage rate is now in effect.

The minimum wage in Upstate New York rose from $9.70 to $10.40.

The hike is larger in New York City; however, where workers will see a raise to $13 per hour. Although, workers in businesses with fewer than 10 employees will get a bump from $10.50 to $12.

This is the second phase of the wage increase. The first, signed into law by Governor Cuomo, went into effect last year.

It is part of the state’s plan to gradually increase minimum wage to $15 per hour.
