HUDSON VALLEY MAN LEAVES PRISON, ROBS BANK:

Just days after getting out of prison a local man is accused of robbing an Orange County bank.

Around 4:45 p.m. on Thursday, police responded to a report of a robbery in progress at TD Bank on East Main Street in Port Jervis.

Port Jervis police were told a white man wearing a black hat, black jacket and sunglasses entered the bank, confronted a teller and demanded cash.

The man fled on foot and later a car after allegedly stealing an undisclosed amount of cash.

A man who fit the suspect’s description was stopped during a traffic safety road check on State Route 97/42 between Sparrowbush and Port Jervis.

The driver is accused of fleeing in a 2002 Ford Explorer when approached by officers. During a two-mile chase, the man is accused of intentionally hitting a Port Jervis police car.

The man, 35-year-old Joseph Hernandez of Jeffersonville, who is currently on parole after being released from prison on Feb. 1, was charged with robbery, criminal possession of stolen property, attempted assault, reckless endangerment, criminal mischief, violation of parole, all felonies, endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor and multiple misdemeanor and violations for vehicle and traffic law offenses.
