Spring Weather- Will It Be Stormy? Get Our Forecast:


Spring officially arrives on March 20, 2018, at precisely 12:15 p.m. EDT, at least according to astronomy, if not meteorology, but when will you feel those lovely spring temperatures?

According to Farmers’ Almanac’s spring outlook, this transitional season is going to take its sweet time getting here. The overall outlook for spring is wet and cool for most places, with a very wet season for the nation’s heartland, with frequent heavy-to-severe thunderstorms, especially in June.

While spring means seasonal temps, blooming flowers, and gardening, it’s also season notorious for crazy, unpredictable weather. So what’s in store? Here’s our 2018 spring weather outlook:

Zone 1 Northeast & New England

  • Stormy start to the first day of spring with rain and wind predicted
  • Wet, stormy start and end to April
  • Warming, drying trend by May
  • Spring will end with even more showers but milder temperatures

Zone 2 Great Lakes, Ohio Valley & Midwest

  • Cloudy but uneventful start to spring
  • Mild but soggy April
  • Very wet May, stormy start to June with increased thunderstorm threat
  • Spring ends with more heavy rains

Zone 3 Southeast 

  • Wet, cool weather for the first few days of spring
  • April warms up nicely but remains wet with lots of rain predicted
  • Warm start to May, thundery end
  • The last few weeks of June will feel like summer with some hot and steamy conditions predicted

Zone 4 North Central States

  • Spring arrives with a with some fair skies and decent temperatures
  • An unsettled April with keep things wet but temperature will feel seasonal
  • May will see some increased thunderstorm acitivity
  • Spring ends on a stormy note with some possibly dangerous thunderstorms leading up to the first day of summer

Zone 5 South Central States

  • Showery start to spring with March ending on a stormy note
  • April sees plenty showers for those May flowers
  • Spring warms up nicely during the month of May, but still may be a bit soggy
  • June will be full of sun and warmth as spring turns into summer

Zone 6 Northwest States

  • Spring starts on a pleasant note, but quickly deteriorates to lion’s end to March
  • Sunny April with a few showers makes for a decent month
  • Stormy conditions return for May
  • Spring ends on a warm, sunny note

Zone 7 Southwest States

  • Pleasant start to spring turns showery
  • April warms up nicely and near normal precipitation
  • May looks a bit wet with many unsettled weather forecasts
  • Hot conditions close out the spring season
