Trump, President Trump‘s daughter and one of his senior advisers, and Holli Richmond, the director of Trump’s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition, were hosting a conference call to answer reporters’ questions ahead of “White House Sports and Fitness Day.”
According to CBS News, Ivanka left the call after she was asked about a report by The Associated Press that China has approved 13 new Ivanka Trump trademarks in recent months.
Press aide Ninio Fetalvo reportedly answered the question by directing reporters’ questions about Trump’s company to the press office.
A reporter later tried to ask Trump about her father’s health, CBS reports, and after a pause, Fetalvo answered again saying “Ivanka had to step out for another meeting.”
The call comes after China signed off on the 13th Ivanka Trump trademark in the last three months on Sunday, according to documents reviewed by the AP. China also gave her company provisional approval for another eight trademarks.
The issuing of the new trademarks comes as President Trump faces scrutiny for his ties to China amid his plan to help Chinese telecommunications firm ZTE. The company was previously banned by the Commerce Department from buying tech components after it violated U.S. sanctions on North Korea and Iran.
Richmond reportedly finished the conference call on Tuesday after Ivanka Trump left.
The “White House Sports and Fitness Day” is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon on the White House South Lawn and will include hundreds of children, parents and athletes to discuss the benefit of sports.
