Worker charged with sexually abusing eight migrant children at detention facility:

A worker at an immigrant detention center is facing 11 charges on sex offenses after he allegedly abused at least eight unaccompanied immigrant boys, ProPublica reported Thursday.

The youth care worker, Levian Pacheco, is accused of performing oral sex on two teenagers, and trying to get one to penetrate him anally, according to the site.

Six other teenagers between the ages of 15 and 17 allege that Pacheco, who is HIV-positive, groped them over their clothing.

Pacheco had worked at Southwest Key’s Casa Kokopelli shelter in Mesa, Ariz., since 2016. The shelter was cited by the Arizona Department of Health Services in 2017 for not completing background checks on employees, according to the site.

Pacheco worked at the shelter for more than three months without a full background check, ProPublica reported. His records reportedly did not include past arrests or convictions on sex offenses.

The treatment of immigrant children being detained by the government was thrown into spotlight earlier this year over the Trump administration’s since-ended policy on separating immigrant families at the border.

President Trump signed an executive order in June to end the policy of separating migrant families at the border.
